Hey, I’m Hillarie:

I created Black Girl Country Living to share my experiences rewilding, and inspire others to rediscover their connection to the living world, community, and their authentic selves.
My Journey to Rewilding
In 2020, my family and I took a bold step. We left the city behind and moved to an acre of forested land on an island off the coast of Washington State. We didn’t have a clear plan, but we felt a strong pull toward a different kind of life—one that was slower, more intentional, and rooted in nature.
After being with nature and the land, and something shifted. I found myself captivated by the everyday wonders outside my door—the vibrant wildlife, the delicate flowers, the nourishing food we grew, and the breathtaking sunsets that painted the sky. These moments weren’t just beautiful; they were transformative. I felt a deep sense of safety and grounding that I hadn’t known before. Slowly, my perspective on life began to change.
Reconnecting with Myself and the World
Through these experiences, I discovered a new version of myself—one that was more present, hopeful, and attuned to the world around me. My fears for the future and regrets about the past faded, replaced by a sense of peace and purpose. Nature was teaching me invaluable lessons: to be patient, to truly listen, and to observe the world with a sense of wonder. She reminded me that I am a spiritual being, interconnected with the earth, the air, and the stars.
A New Path Forward
This journey back to nature reawakened something in me. It was more than just a change of scenery; it was a return to a deeper, more authentic way of being. I realized that I wanted to share this transformative experience with others, to help them find the healing and connection I had discovered.
So, I took another leap. I left my corporate career in executive education to dedicate myself fully to creating experiences that bring people closer to nature and, ultimately, to themselves. Through BGCL, I offer stories, workshops, and community events that invite people to rewild their lives, unlearn what no longer serves them, and reconnect with their true essence.
I Believe…
Rewilding is more than just a return to nature; it’s a return to our natural state of being. It’s about embracing curiosity, honoring the rhythms of the earth, and finding community in the shared experience of living in harmony with the world around us. BGCL is a space for everyone—especially those who have felt disconnected from nature or their own sense of belonging—to come home to themselves.
